Design and Technology is an exciting subject at Penyrheol Comprehensive School!

Pupils are taught to become discerning individuals able to think critically about the products they use daily. They become imaginative and creative designers and producers of products in a number of focus areas.

At Penyrheol we focus on Design Technology: Product Design, Design Technology: Fashion and Textiles and also Food & Nutrition. Prior to this, at KS3, pupils are given a broad understanding of all areas of the National Curriculum. This successfully enables the pupils to undertake one of the GCSEs should they opt for it at the end of Year 9.

Pupils are taught the design process and study aspects of it which culminate in producing specialist design booklets and products.

Projects at KS3 are delivered in modules of approximately 20 weeks with 3 lessons per fortnight. At GCSE pupils have 5 hours per fortnight in which to study the subject.

We are a forward looking, dynamic department with specialist teachers in all areas.
