The Art Department at Penyrheol Comprehensive School encourages pupils to follow the school motto “To Achieve is to Believe”.
We encourage all pupils that creativity is an essential part of an individual’s success and is essential for developing confidence and well-being.
Pupils have the opportunity to build on knowledge, understanding and skills.

KS3

Pupils are giving the opportunity to explore and understand different cultures, art movements and contemporary and traditional artists throughout history.

In key stage three pupils gain experience of using art equipment, learning various techniques and experimenting with different materials.
Pupils will be expected to show evidence of confident and effective use of the art and design process demonstrating an ability to organise their work and collect and use relevant reference based on their topic of study. Pupils will use extended oral and written comments with confidence to improve their learning, making considerable comparisons between their work and the work of artists.

If you enjoy being creative, want to increase your practical skills and improve your analytical, communication and research abilities, art and design is a great choice. The skills you gain make it a great complement to other subjects. Art and design is a way of seeing things and making sense of the world around you. It can help you with further study and prepare you for the world of work. Art is a very popular KS4 option choice at Penyrheol Comprehensive School. The aim of the course is to allow pupils to express their individuality and creativity. Currently the Art department offers Art and Design or Photography at GCSE level.

Pupils draw from direct observation and produce work using a range of different skills and techniques and materials including two-dimensional work and three-dimensional work. In Art there is a focus on elements of line, tone, shape, scale, structure, colour, pattern and texture. Pupils will annotate artwork discussing likes/dislikes of materials and analysing artists’ work they have chosen to study. Art and design opens the door to lots of exciting careers, such as;
