Krakow/Auschwitz Tour 2019

From the 22nd – 25th of February this year, Dr Rees took 14 students to visit the wonderful city of Krakow, kindly accompanied by Mr Thomas our ALNCO. It was made even more pleasurable by the fact that Wales beat England in the Six Nations on the Saturday! The city itself was resplendent and the students as always conducted themselves superbly, thoroughly enjoying the sites, the several Macdonalds restaurants and the shopping!

On the Saturday morning we undertook the hour long journey to visit Auschwitz-Birkenau where we were given a superb audio tour in very cold but crystal blue skies. Having been there before several years ago, it was somewhat disheartening to see the deterioration in some of the buildings and the extensive efforts being made to preserve this world heritage site. However, the students all thought it was an amazing experience and took aboard all what was being explained.

A four and a half visit to Accident and Emergency in the night didn’t dampen spirits however and with our injured individual fully stitched up, Sunday saw us on a walking tour of historic Krakow. The freezing wind curtailed our tour somewhat, but the afternoon saw us visit the Schindler Factory Museum which was superbly presented.

Overall, the tour was a triumph, if somewhat stressful and our students once again did themselves proud!
